ABOUT ABOUT

Dmitry Sinkovsky

The voice is a common source of inspiration for violinists and conductors.  Likewise, many vocalists harness an instrumental virtuosity in their performances.  To find a musician who can seamlessly blend voice, instrument, and conducting is unheard of — until Dmitry Sinkovsky.

“Virtuosity, finesse, expression, imagination; nothing is missing from Sinkovsky.”  —Le Monde

Groomed for an international career by the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied violin with Alexander Kirov, and the Zagreb Music Academy in Croatia where he studied conducting with Tomislav Facinim, Mr. Sinkovsky has since taken innumerable prizes in major competitions; from the Premio Bonporti in Italy (2005) to the Bach Competition in Leipzig (2006), the Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges (first prize, audience prize, and critics’ prize, 2008) to the Romanus Weichlein prize at the Biber competition in Austria in 2009 for his “extraordinary interpretation of Biber’s Rosary Sonatas,” and first prize at the Telemann Competition in Magdeburg (2011).

Having founded a notable violin career, Sinkovsky chose in 2007 to pursue his talent as a countertenor with vocal coaches Michael Chance, Marie Daveluy, and finally Jana Ivanilova, with whom he studied for seven years in Moscow.  Mr. Sinkovsky’s exceptionally-natural high voice with its magical sound quality is distinguished by a wide range of timbral colors, lightness, rich overtones, and agility.  In 2014 and 2017 he was invited to Australia where, with the Brandenburg Orchestra, he performed ten highly acclaimed recitals in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.  Since 2014, he has been an invited vocal soloist of the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow and often performs in duet with Russian soprano Julia Lezhneva.  In the 2018-19 season, Mr. Sinkovsky performed the title role in "Lucio Silla" at Ludwigsburg festival accompanied by Ensemble 1700 and conducted by Dorothee Oberlinger.

Mr. Sinkovsky—having served as guest conductor of Il Complesso Barocco, accompanying distinguished mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in her ‘Drama Queens’ concert tour throughout Europe, the USA, and Asia in the 2012-13 season—is much in demand as a conductor, vocal soloist, and violinist, performing extensively in Europe, Russia, Canada, Asia, Australia, and the USA.  He heads the ensemble La Voce Strumentale and, as of 2016, is resident Baroque conductor of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra—as well as the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony, Il Pomod’oro, and Brock Orchestra—where he conducts, sings, and performs solo violin repertoire for astonished and enthusiastic audiences.  Mr. Sinkovsky has an exclusive contract with French label Naïve and plays a superb, Francesco Ruggeri, 1675, violin.

Advanced purchase recommended.
